Children's Sunday School at Epworth
Infant Nursery
Newborns through 1-Year-Olds
Epworth provides a nursery for infants through 1-Year-Olds during the Sunday School hour (9:30 am - 10:30 am), as well as during the 8:30 am and the 10:55 am services. A pager system is used for parents who wish to leave their children in our care.
Two-Year-Old Room
Our Two-Year-Olds are exposed to the bible and bible stories through play, as well as structured activities. We use The Beginners Bible and a modification of the curriculum "In the Beginning." The classroom has a variety of centers for the children to enjoy while they spend time with us. In addition, we also offer a snack to our two-year-olds around 10:15 am.
Three-Year-Old Room and Four-Year-Old Room
Our three-year-olds and four-year-olds each have their own classroom and teacher. When they first enter the classroom for Sunday School, the children are encourage to participate in a variety of stations that are set up in the classrooms. The teachers then lead the children in bible lessons that have been created particularly for preschoolers. The name of the curriculum is "In the Beginning. . . .Growing into a Life of Faith." Our three-year-olds and four-year-olds are also offered a snack around 10:15 am. *Note: Children who are five and not yet in Kindergarten also take part in this curriculum.
Kindergarten-5th Grade
Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in a program called "It All Fits Together! God's Story: Genesis-Revelation." Throughout the school year, the children learn stories/lessons from the bible. They begin in the fall studying Genesis and end in May with Revelations. All of the lessons and activities are age appropriate. In addition, they are creative and fun. Each week the children explore three concepts with the story: Know What, So What, and Now What. First, they are encouraged to learn the story and know it well. Then, they are inspired to think about what this story in the bible means and what lessons it can teach us. Finally, and most importantly, the children are challenged to think about what they are going to do with what they have learned. The actual bible lesson is taught in a Large Group Format. Then, the children break into Small Groups for activities that challenge them to think about what the bible story really means for them on a daily basis.
*During the summer, we use a curriculum called "Flipt", which is appropriate for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. It utilizes videos and a variety of games and activities. The "Flipt" curriculum challenges children to look at different individuals whose lives were drastically changed after meeting Jesus.
